Acts 6:4

"But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the Word."

1 Timothy 4:6-16

" If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. These things command and teach. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee." 1 Tim 4:6-16 (KJV)

"Spoiled, Lazy Americans!" by Shane C. MOntgomery

Spoiled, lazy Americans... How does that make you feal? Does it make you upset? It shouldn't, because it is true. Can you honestly tell me that we as a nation, are not spoiled and lazy? I will grant you that we, as a people, normally have a good work ethic. We have no problem motivating ourselves to get out of bed every morning and rushing off to work. We have no problem working hard and being nice to our co-workers, in an attempt to get ahead and earn that raise or that promotion.

But when it comes to our spiritual lives we are down right pathetic! I am embarrassed for us, and not just us, all of North America. I know, I know, being a man or woman of faith is a thing of the past, right. We have more important things to worry about these days. Who has time for church? Oh!, you say "but I am a Christian, I believe in God and I go to church when I can make it, when I am not to busy"

How did we get to this point? What happened to us, as a "Christian Nation" to make us not care anymore? Please don't say you care because you don't! Well, there might be a 1% chance that you are one of the 1% who do care, but I doubt it.

My son, who is now 14, went out with a tape recorder a few weeks ago and interviewed people on the street. He asked them very basic simple questions about the Gospel and Jesus Christ. Guess what we found out? No one knows anything about anything when it comes to God's Word. I am not at all exagerating either.

If you do not trust what I am saying to you, just go ask someone "What is the Gospel?", they will not be able to tell you. or if they claim to be a Christian, ask them this.... "How is one Justified before God?" They can not even begin to tell you. Or try this one on your Christian friends... "Can you name the Ten Commandments?" Try it, see if I am wrong. Forget about asking these believers their opinions on various Biblical doctrines, we can not even begin to explain the basics of our own faith.

I like to ask believers "how do you share the Gospel with others?" I quit asking this question after awhile. I could not stand to hear the same asnwer any longer. "I let them see what change Jesus has made in my life." My friends, let me let you in on a little secret... that is not the Gospel! The change in your life is your testimony, not the Gospel. But, we do not know the difference anymore do we?

We have become a fat bloated corpse of what we use to be in this country. We were once a Christian nation, we are a million miles from being that now. I understand that there are still many Christians out there, but they are mostly decieving themselves. If they are true believers, they do not read their Bibles. There is no way anyone can read Scripture everyday and be so confused on basic Bible issues, it is not possible.

I want to ask a favor of you now, if you are a follower of Christ, will you do this for me? Will you read God's Word? Please? If you are a believer will you pray to your Heavenly Father that He send His Holy Spirit into your life? Will you pray for wisdom and knowledge in His Word? Will you study His Word everyday without excuse? Will you share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those around you who are dead in their sins? To those you know who are yet in bondage to sin, will you sit down and explain the Gospel to them?

Or will you continue to show those dead in sin "what change Christ has made in your life?" Maybe it is time we all put down the TV remote and get on the mental treadmill and try to get our pathetic, lazy hearts and minds back into shape to serve Our Lord and Savior. Read Matthew 25 today. Read the entire chapter, and decide which one you want to be a Goat at His left hand or one of His Sheep at His right hand?

Don't be mad, just be faithful to the one who called you and saved you.

Soli Deo Gloria Shane
